Chevy Cruze 1.4 Turbo Issues

Chevrolet has built its reputation in the last few decades with its powerful and high-performance cars. Not only has Chevrolet been successful in manufacturing high-speed racing cars but also they have successfully produced a range of compact cars and SUVs. It is true that manufacturing cars with high-end technology has changed the view of the automobile industry in the past few decades. But it is also true that there are always some drawbacks with such advancement in technology. Here, we will discuss the Chevy Cruze 1.4 Turbo Issues and why actually these issues arise.

Chevrolet Cruze started its production in 2008-2009 and ended selling in 2019 in the United States. Cruze gained massive popularity in the beginning with its shiny exterior look. But later on, several issues with the 1.4L turbocharged engine suddenly dropped its sale.

What is a Turbocharged Engine and How does it Work?

Have you ever wondered how these cars can travel at such high speeds? Well, obviously the reason behind it is the powerful engine. But there is more to it. You must have heard about the V6, V8, and V10 engines. It simply describes the number of cylinders attached to produce power in the engine. The more the number of cylinders, the higher is the rate of combustion inside, and more will be the power.

But, the concept of a turbocharged engine works in a different and more efficient way. The turbocharged engine uses the exhaust gases that are produced by the combustion of the air/fuel mixture. These exhaust gases help to move the turbine and to spin the air compressor that releases extra oxygen for a higher combustion rate. So, the turbocharged engine is a more efficient way to generate high power but there are some issues too that we will discuss in the next section.

Chevy Cruze Turbo Issues

As we have already discussed, Chevrolet has discontinued the manufacturing of the Cruze in 2019. It is because of the issues with the turbocharged engine. So, let’s see some major issues with the Cruze Turbo Engine.

Leakage of Engine Coolant

The Cruze engine had a number of problems that buyers had to deal with. One of the most common issues is the leakage of the coolant. Basically, car engine coolants are helpful to lower down the temperature inside the engine for better performance of engine parts. But with Chevrolet Cruze, there are several cases of engine damage due to leakage of coolant. It may occur due to loose connections, or one of the main reasons for leakage is a crack in the thermostat.

Excess Consumption of Fuel

The Chevrolet Cruze has also reported a problem with the excess consumption of fuel for the combustion process. It leads to the damage of several engine parts like valves, crankshaft, etc. The excess consumption of fuel/oil causes the engine extremely hot. It causes wear and tear of several engine components.

Bypass-Valve Issue

It is the reason behind the failure of the turbo. Bypass-valve is useful for pressure release when the throttle is lifted open. There is a spring inside the valve that helps to release the pressure. But excess use can lead to its damage with time and in turn, leads to the failure of turbo.

How to Resolve Turbo Engine Issues

There are several turbo issues that you can’t resolve by yourself. But you can maintain your car well if you don’t want to spend your hard-earned money to buy a new engine. Here are some things that you can do to resolve the above issues.

Quality Coolant

Spending a few extra dollars can save you thousands of dollars sometimes. You should always prefer a high-quality coolant over a low-quality coolant. A high-quality coolant will last longer and help you cool down the interior of the engine very well. But a low-quality coolant can even lead to engine failure.

Also, an equal proportion of coolant and distilled water should be added to the coolant chamber. Knowing these little things can save you time, money, and energy.

Check Engine Light

Red Engine light is a warning signal for you and your car engine. It simply means that there is some issue with the car engine that needs to be resolved. Ignoring this light can even cause the car engine to damage. So, whenever you see a warning signal, immediately take your car to the service station for in-depth inspection.

High-Quality Engine Oil

You must have seen several advertisements showing the engine failure due to the bad quality of the engine oil. It is really very important to buy a good quality engine oil. Because the engine oil is most responsible for the generation of power inside the combustion chamber. Also, engine oil plays an important role in the lubrication of several engine parts. With low-quality engine oil, the consumption of engine oil will be high, the oil will burn rapidly and lead to the corrosion of engine parts.

Cleaning Engine Interior

Due to the combustion inside the engine, dirt and debris are deposited inside the engine. It can cause erosion of engine parts. Also, it decreases the efficiency of the engine. So, in order for the engine to work properly, it is very essential to clean the interior of the engine consistently.

Conclusion

The Chevy Cruze doesn’t have only a 1.4L turbocharged engine. There are other engine models too with a 1.8L engine which is not a turbo engine. Well, obviously, there are both pros and cons of a turbocharged engine. A turbo engine has better fuel efficiency than a non-turbo engine. Also, a turbo engine can provide more power to compact cars with smaller engine sizes. But, the maintenance of a turbocharged engine is relatively high, and also the expenses are a little more.
